چکیده

Using the probability theory-based approach, this paper reveals the equivalence of an arbitrary NPcomplete problem to a problem of checking whether a level set of a specifically constructed harmonic cost function (with all diagonal entries of its Hessian matrix equal to zero) intersects with a unit hypercube in many-dimensional Euclidean space. This connection suggests the possibility that methods of continuous mathematics can provide crucial insights into the most intriguing open questions in modern complexity theory.

On the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack

Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...

Extension of Cube Attack with Probabilistic Equations and its Application on Cryptanalysis of KATAN Cipher

Cube Attack is a successful case of Algebraic Attack. Cube Attack consists of two phases, linear equation extraction and solving the extracted equation system. Due to the high complexity of equation extraction phase in finding linear equations, we can extract nonlinear ones that could be approximated to linear equations with high probability. The probabilistic equations could be considered as l...

The Computational Complexity of Probabilistic Planning

We examine the computational complexity of testing and nding small plans in probabilistic planning domains with both at and propositional representations. The complexity of plan evaluation and existence varies with the plan type sought; we examine totally ordered plans, acyclic plans, and looping plans, and partially ordered plans under three natural de nitions of plan value. We show that probl...

Contents 1 Average - Case Computational Complexity Theory 1

NP-complete problems are generally thought of as being com-putationally intractable. However, NP-completeness is a worst-case concept. Indeed, some NP-complete problems are \easy on average," though some may not be. How is one to know whether an NP-complete problem is \diicult on average"? The theory of average-case computational complexity , initiated by Levin about ten years ago, is devoted t...
